Expect quality education. B. Be treated with dignity and respect. C. Expect consistent and fair treatment in relationship to school policies and expectations. D. Attend a school which has a safe and healthy environment. E. Have due process when school policies are enforced. F. Have freedom from racial, religious, handicapped and sex discrimination. G. Not be subjected to unsafe practices and discourteous conduct at all times when coming to, waiting for, and while on or leaving a school bus. DROPPING CLASSES Students who are dropped from a class for any reason other than a WAF, (With drawl-Attendance- Failure) or who wish to drop a class after the first three school days of a semester, will receive a failing grade for that course. ATTENDANCE POLICY UNDER 16 ATTENDANCE 1. Absence- the non-attendance of a student on those days and half days in which the school was in session. 2. Excused absence- any absence that is excused by the parent or guardian within two school days of the student's return to school. 3. Unexcused absence- absence that is not excused by the parent within two days. 4. Habitual truant- any child with five or more unexcused absences in any one school year. RULES 1. A valid excuse, from a parent, must be received by the school office within two days. 2. Unexcused absences will result in parent notification and detention. OVER 16 ATTENDANCE 1. Students are allowed an absence score of eight points during a semester. 2. Unexcused absences result in A). Parental notification b). Conference with Assistant Principal). Assigned detention time. TARDY POLICY A tardy is defined as 5 minutes or less late to class for an unacceptable reason. Detention time will be assigned by the teacher beginning with the third tardy per class/per semester. Teachers are encouraged to contact parents on all tardies. DETENTION POLICY Detention will be served on the day assigned form 3:20 to 4:00 p.m. Detention time has priority over any other activity time including athletic practice and jobs. If tardy to detention, the student must serve the rest of that day's detention plus one more. The student is responsible to keep track of their detention. If a student fails to attend their detention, the student will be assigned Saturday school or be suspended with parent notification and a parent conference may be held. APPEAL PROCESS Students have the right to appeal decisions to the next level. The appeal process would include the following steps: 1. Teacher 2. Assistant Principal 3. Principal 4. Superintendent of Schools 5. Board of Education HALL CONDUCT 1. Students will not use profane language. 2. Students may not be loud and boisterous. 3. Groups congregating for the purpose of harassment, name calling, or general misbehavior will not be tolerated. 4. Students must refrain from blocking the hallways. 5. Outward physical acts, such as kissing and inappropriate intimate contact, are not acceptable. 6. Language or physical conduct that is intended to threaten, intimidate, or degrade other people is not acceptable. DRESS CODE 1. Shirts and shoes are to be worn at all times. 2. At all times, clothing shall cover the shoulders and midriff, shall not be low-cut in the front or back, and shall not come above mid thigh. 3. Students may not wear hats, or any other type of headgear, in the school building during the school day (8:00 a.m.-3:15 p.m.) 4. Clothing and accessories with obscene or unacceptable language or graphics are prohibited. 5. Clothing and accessories promoting drugs, alcohol, tobacco or gang activity are prohibited.
